Last weekend, we packed up our camping gear and headed to Versailles State Park for a much-needed escape into nature. Nestled in southeastern Indiana, Versailles State Park offers a perfect blend of outdoor activities, beautiful scenery, and opportunities to learn about local wildlife. From tent camping under the stars to hiking through lush trails, our time there was filled with adventure and quality family time.
Setting Up Camp: A Cozy Home in the Woods
As soon as we arrived, we set up our tents in a cozy, shaded spot surrounded by towering trees. The kids, bubbling with excitement, immediately grabbed their scooters and zoomed around the campsite. The sound of wheels on gravel mixed with the rustling leaves, setting a peaceful, yet lively tone for the weekend.
Splashing Fun at the Park’s Swimming Pool
After setting up camp, we decided to cool off with a dip in the park’s swimming pool. The pool was refreshing, and the kids had a blast splashing around. Evening Delights: S’mores and Scooters
As evening approached, we gathered around the campfire to enjoy one of the most iconic camping treats—s’mores! The kids roasted marshmallows to perfection (or as close as possible), and we all indulged in the gooey, chocolatey goodness. There’s something magical about sitting around a campfire, sharing stories, and simply enjoying each other’s company under a sky full of stars.
After our s’mores, the kids were back on their scooters, circling the campsite in the fading light. Their laughter echoed through the trees, a perfect soundtrack to the setting sun. The night ended with us all gathered in our tents, listening to the sounds of the forest as we drifted off to sleep.

Our camping trip to Versailles State Park was everything we hoped it would be—fun, relaxing, and filled with new experiences. From swimming and hiking to learning about turtles and enjoying s’mores by the fire, every moment was a reminder of the simple joys of spending time in nature with family.
